Bruise, sprain or fracture?
It can be hard to tell a bruise from a crack or fracture by looking; an X-ray shows it. At Gavhar Clinic a trauma doctor will examine you, take an X-ray and apply a cast or brace in the same visit.

Possible causes
These are the most common causes. Your doctor will name the actual cause after an examination and scans; it can't be pinned down from a description online.
Sprain
Usually the ankle or knee: you twisted it, it swelled and it hurts to stand on.
Fracture or crack
Sharp pain at one spot, swelling, deformity, unable to bear weight.
Dislocation
The joint looks out of place and won't move.
Book an appointment if
- it still hurts to stand on the leg after a day
- swelling and bruising aren't easing after 2–3 days
- a child is guarding an arm or leg after a fall
- an old injury still bothers you
What you can do before your visit
- Rest the injured part and don't try to put anything back in place yourself.
- Cold through a cloth for 15–20 minutes, and keep it raised.
- Take rings and bracelets off an injured hand before it swells.
Take painkillers only as the leaflet says and if they're safe for you. Don't heat a fresh injury, and don't have joint injections without a doctor's examination.

Common questions
Do you see injuries without an appointment?
Yes, during clinic hours: Mon–Sat, 8:00–17:00. It's best to call 1281 on the way so the doctor is ready. At night and on Sundays, call 103 for a serious injury.
Do I need an X-ray for a sprain?
If it's hard to stand on after the injury, the bone hurts at a specific spot or there's a lot of swelling, yes, so a crack isn't missed. The trauma doctor decides after examining you.
